A meeting of the International Consultative Committee

A next meeting of the International Consultative Committee for the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety took place.

Welcoming addresses were made by Mr. V.N. Kiryanov, Chief State Inspector for Road Safety in Russia, and Mr. E. Krug, World Health Organization. Speakers noted that preparations for the Conference are coming to the finishing line and the final, but the most important stage, lies ahead.

In his speech Mr. V.N. Kiryanov drew attention to the fact that the success of the event often depends on the way it is presented to the public

In this regard, the organizers from the Russian side attach great importance to the coverage of the Conference in mass-media. As it usually happens at such high-level international events a special accreditation procedure will be provided for the media.

Journalists will be accommodated in the press-center, equipped with all the necessary technical means. The Conference meetings will be broadcasted to the press-center in two languages: English and Russian. Press conferences will be organized in a separate press-room.

Also Mr. V.N. Kiryanov drew Committee members' attention to the fact that corresponding advertising materials have already appeared on the streets of Moscow thanks to the support of the city government.

Thus, in the period from September 1 to November 24, 2009 100 street advertisement panels (3x6m size), 18 banners, 17 screens and 40 city-size sides are used. (A detailed description of the campaign will also be presented at www.1300000.net)

In addition, during the preparatory period a series of particular subject articles publications was organized and appropriate advertising information was placed in the leading automobile magazines "AUTOMIR", "QUATRORUTTE", "ZA RULEM". Negotiations for production and broadcasting of commercials are carried on with “AUTORADIO” - the largest FM radio station in Russia. As far as possible other information resources will also be involved.

Committee members were informed about the "Traffic Safety Forum” exhibition which will be held from 17 to 20 November 2009 in Moscow and will be timed to coincide with the Conference.

To date, 103 organizations have applied to participate in the exhibition on the total area of 2.2 thousand square meters. During the exhibition four particular subject scientific and practical seminars will be held. Contact information of the exhibition operator can also be found on the website of the Conference.

Members of the Russian organizing committee spoke about the major stages of preparations, including the organizational issues associated with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation Mr. D.A. Medvedev in the Conference, providing visa support, logistics etc.

There was discussion of the preparation plan for implementing “The Decade for Action to improve road safety”, as well as suggestions of the participating countries on Moscow Declaration, which will be the final resolution of the Conference.

Members of the Consultative Committee reviewed with the technical capabilities of the World Trade Center, where the Conference will take place, and found it conforming with the high status of the upcoming events.

In general, it was acknowledged that the preparations for the Conference are held in accordance with previously scheduled plans.
