The pilots of the Williams Formula One racing team are committed to support the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety
6 November 2009
The understanding in promoting the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety was reached at the informal meeting between the team principal Sir Francis Williams and Mr. Victor Kiryanov, Head of the Road Safety Department, the Ministry of Interior of the Russian Federation, during Bavaria Moscow City Racing near the Kremlin on 19 July 2009. At the same time the conference’s emblem was placed on the team’s racing cars.
25 years ago Frank Williams, the founder of the Williams Formula One racing team, was injured in a car accident. He was the culprit. Then he became a determined supporter of safe driving. Sir F.Williams on behalf of the team’s pilots expressed commitment to promote the key idea of the Conference – the necessity of collaborative efforts to develop and implement policies and practices that would reduce the growing number of road crash fatalities. He expressed a view that the motto of the Conference - “Time for action!” - reflects to perfection his team’s attitude towards road safety issues. Frank Williams made an appeal to support of the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety.
