Andrei Arshavin gives support to the Moscow Ministerial Conference
10 November 2009
Andrei Arshavin, a player of the FC ‘Arsenal’ based in London and the captain of the Russian national football (soccer) team gave his support to the ‘Make Roads Safe’ global campaign. He expressed hope that the outcomes of the Ministerial Conference on road safety to be held in Moscow on 19-20 November 2009, will be fruitful and issue a clear call for a ‘Decade of Action for Road Safety’ approval.
Andrei Arshavin: “Over a million people die on the world’s roads every year. Therefore, road safety is a serious problem as for Russia so for the world and it requires a more scrupulous attention. I have two children and I’m anxious about safety of the young. Urgent measures should be taken to make roads safe.
Signing a ‘Make Roads Safe’ poster he added: “As a prudent driver I vote for a ‘Decade of Action for Road Safety’. Too many people die from road crashes all over the world. We need urgent actions to save lives.”
Launched in 2007 ‘Make Roads Safe’ global campaign urges the international community and the UN to decide upon a ‘Decade of Action’ for Road Safety in 2010 and to recognize road traffic injuries as the largest contributor to the global road death epidemic killing 1.3 million people annually. http://www.makeroadssafe.org/ru/
