A social campaign on drunk driving prevention is launched in Russia on the eve of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
17 November 2009
A giant 12-meter high bottle filled with crashed cars was installed on the Krasnopresnenskaya nabererezhnaya not far from the Conference’s venue.
A poster placed near-by clarifies that it is a kind of warning. The installation is intended for those drivers who assume that it’s permissible to be at the wheel in a state of intoxication.
Drunk driving is admitted as one of the main risk factors of global road safety. The WHO report offers several recommendations in regards to the legislation on driver blood-alcohol concentration limits, law enforcement measures, strict control of young and inexperienced drivers. However, the experts also stress the importance of social awareness campaigns on eradication of drunk driving.
Maxim Fyodorov, the author of the installation, comments: “The idea of this simple and vivid action is to make obvious the concept of vehicle and alcohol incompatibility. Actually we show clearly what will happen if these two notions are combined – a pile of wreckage”.
The campaign is staged under the slogan “Had a drink – don’t start! You’ll be hurt!”
